It was National Adoption week and I was performing live on BBC introducing “raw talent “on radio Humberside. Then I was played again on BBC Introducing on BBC Leeds on Wednesday 18th November. Both shows are hosted by Alan Raw. The BBC radio Humberside is in Hull, which took about an hour to get to from Wakefield but as usual we got there an hour early! So we sat in the car outside the studio with the door open so I could rehearse. A passerby was surprised by the live open air show!!
Katie Noon the producer was extremely lovely and welcoming. The radio station was intimate and I felt at ease, and Alan Raw was delightful, so we started straight away with the sound check.
I was very nervous as I have never done a radio play before and in fact I had never been inside a radio station; on top of that I had a cold. My acoustic session consisted of 2 acoustic songs and an interview; I decided to play “Once Again” on the guitar and “Fallen for” on the keyboard.

As a contrast I sang my song ‘Fallen For’ as it is romantic and poetic.
I was very nervous once we were live, but Alan was such a lovely person to talk to, I felt much more comfortable. It was a different experience performing in the radio station as you don’t realise that people are listening, as there was only Alan Raw in the room. So I felt as if I was singing to him and my interview felt let two people having a chat. I believe that was the skill of Alan.
My interview ranged from my early life in Nepal, my life in the orphanage in Kathmandu, my adoption in the UK: I felt this was very appropriate to talk about as it was National Adoption Week and Children in Need is on the Friday.
We then moved onto my music. We discussed the similarity of the vibrant London music scene and the same vibrancy that is now in Leeds.
Alan Raw ended the session by saying “You have a wonderful voice and I love your songs”. This was so fantastic and it gave me a lovely feeling: it was great praise.
I want to thank Katie Noon and Alan Raw for giving me this opportunity, and I would love to do it again.
